This is Dharavi, Mumbai’s largest slum, and it’s about to change forever.
Once a mangrove swamp on the edge of Mumbai, more than one million people now live in these five-hundred-and-fifty acres.
The residents of Dharavi are representative of India’s larger poverty problem.

Mj, fool, why should it matter whether Indians speak English at all? They’re an ancient country 2,500 years old– they were around well before English was even a language.
Sanskrit and its modern descendants (like Hindi, Marathi) have been used as languages for far longer than English.
So speaking English is a stupid measure of one’s level of education. I’ve met Indians who speak no English, but write brilliantly in Hindi/Tamil (or speak German/French). That’s totally fine.

En la película el personaje principal habla inglés porque vivió con un monje que abusaba sexualmente de él. Eso no sale en la película, pero sí en la novela “Q&A” en la cual está basada. No te quedes con la impresión de que están mejor que nosotros. No lo están. La India ha crecido mucho, pero necesita crecer mucho más para llegar siquiera al nivel de México, cuyo PIB per cápita es tres veces mayor al de la India.

La pobreza no es peor en México. NO chingues. Las personas en esos barrios de la India viven entre la basura, sin ningún tipo de servicio de drenaje. Además, están los dalit, o sea, los “intocables”, que están relegados a actividades subhumanas. Nosotros no somos así. Hay mucha pobreza y desigualdad en México, sí. Pero no se compara con la de la India.
