Will a bad economy actually cause voters turn to a more vetted candidate and away from Obama?

October 18th, 2009 | by admin |

It is not so much that unemployment is so high (5.7 percent) or that the economy is in the tank (1 percent growth this quarter) as it is that everything seems to be falling apart. Banks are under assault; mortgages are in default; quasi-government agencies like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac need bailouts; financial institutions go hat in hand to foreign sovereign wealth funds peddling shares of their equity in return for desperately needed cash; the cost of filling a gas tank has tripled. It is not the present circumstances that have voters freaked, it is the threats that seem to loom on the horizon.

So the question that hangs over the election is: Are we prepared to trust a new candidate with almost no experience and no claim to economic expertise in the middle of one of the most threatening economic situations we have ever faced?

Were these calmer times, with less of a threat from abroad and less economic danger, we might indulge our penchant for change and elect a neophyte in the hope that he will offer something different. We might be more easily captivated by his charisma. But, in these times, we may want to stay with the safer candidate.

The bottom line is this:

John McCain has 26 years experience in the Congress and 22 years of military service.

Barack Hussein Obama has 143 days experience in the Congress and 0 years of military service.

The last time a country made the mistake of electing someone with such little experience but with such radical ideas got stuck with Fidel Castro! Look what he did to Cuba =(

You are correct. However BO is offering everyone $1000 tax rebates and money looks good to people who are broke and/or unemployed or on social security. I am fearful that voters might buy into his bribery offers….and overlook his background and inexperience.

The Republican party has always operated on fear.
They crank the fear up until people are frantic for escape and then the show them a rat hole that says safety.

Well Obama beat them to it this time.

While they were (and still are) cranking up the fear machine Obama opened a gate instead of a mere rat hole and put up a sign in bright lights that says "Promised Land."

For the Republicans to beat Obama first they have to beat themselves.
    They can not do that.

After 50 tears of simply twisting the fear dial harder every election they can not stop.

Yet every notch they twist the fear dial up now they get more people looking at that big white gate Obama is offering,

and at the rat hole of sleazy corrupt politics offered by McCain (and the Clintons)

Two weeks of no increased fear, a breather, and you can guess how many are going to be heading for the gate instead of the rat hole.
