Newborn With Cerebral Palsy From Group B Strep
February 18th, 2010 | by admin |In what follows we look at a report dealing with a case arising out of a Group B Strep infection. The report mentioned that there were two doctors involved, each of whom made serious errors. The first doctor involved was the one who delivered the infant. This doctor either missed or ignored symptoms that the child had contracted a GBS infection.
In addition, the obstetrician did not relate the signs to any of the other attending physicians when the child was taken to the nursery. To compound the problem, the pediatrician who made rounds at the nursery likewise failed to take any action even though the baby was in respiratory distress.
In only a few hours, the child suffered respiratory and cardiac arrest and as a result ended up with cerebral palsy. This Group B Strep lawsuit was announced as settled for $5.7Million by the law firm that handled the lawsuit.
