We know Koch Industries funds astroturf movements through Americans for Prosperity, I just wonder what percentage of the deniers they fund?
Hint… A lot of deniers read this question and soiled themselves.

I’ll answer the question. I would say that it’s probably around 10% (I doubt it would be any more than that), at least from what I’ve seen. The thing is that any given denier who publishes via blog or forum may actually be paid to write what they’re writing and have no further concern in the matter. I believe this for the simple reason that many deniers here cite blogs as their source, or articles on right-wing forums. So the answers here are not necessarily coming from shills so much as the deniers’ sources for those answers are.

Since you referenced Google, I assume you mean specific companies within the film industry. The really big names are the studios: Sony, Warner Bros, NBC Universal, Paramount, Fox, etc.

What types of industries or businesses are likely to profit in a deep recession or depression?
If there are no industries that will profit, what types of products do you think would profit? (alcohol, gold, etc)

I don’t think this is true; I think several businesses can profit in a deep recession. Especially if our problems are combined with the oil crisis.

Businesses that fix things do better in times of recession; people are more likely to get something fixed than go out and buy new ones. Shoe re-solers are a traditional example, but how about bread machine repair? I recently saw a post where someone was comparing the price of repair vs. getting a new one, so that’s already starting.

I think local food businesses will also do better. (-: The movie Kitt Kittredge is probably not your best resource for serious ideas, but the depression-era mothers in that movie were raising chickens and selling the eggs for a little extra money. The current thinking says how free-range is really the way to go, anyway, so you’ve got a double-punch for the viability of home-grown, organic food.

Cheap housing will also see an upturn. Kitt Kittredge again, but people were renting out extra bedrooms and sheds to make a little extra money. So, if you have relatively inexpensive apartments in an area near work, there’s a good chance you might make a profit.

(-: I’m pretty sure alcohol, other drugs, cheap entertainment, etc. will also profit.

the last report i had to get was in 2000 and is said the aftermarket parts buisness was worth 80 billion daollars in the USA and it grows by 15 to 30% a year. So i would put it at around 115 billion in the usa last year

Well, which way are you going? Pre- or post-mining?

Pre-mining would be machine manufacturing and surveying.

Post-mining would be refining (secondary) and anything else like construction or manufacturing more machines.
